Looking for Windows? Consider Double Glazing
56
A popular way for homeowners to add value to their home is by double glazing all the windows in their house. Double glazing is basically two window panes that are fitted together with a vacuum in-between them. The vacuum of air is extremely regulated to prevent any air from leaking out or leaking in. A double glazed window that has condensation is a double glazed window that needs to be replaced. Usually an inert gas such as argon is put into the vacuum. Argon makes for an excellent insulator.
The added insulation is always the determining factor when a homeowner adds double glazed windows but there are other benefits. Double glazed windows greatly reduce outside noise. Think about it, outside noise now has to travel thru two panes of glass rather then one. And not only thru two panes of glass but thru that vacuum sealed pocket of air in-between the two panels of glass.
This extra pain of glass and pocket of vacuumed air also lends itself in making one’s home more secure. Most home invasions occur when a burglar simply opens a single pane window that was left unopened or they simply break the single pane with a towel wrapped around their hand. Breaking thru a double glazed window is nowhere near as easy. In fact it is quite hard and only the most determined burglar would even attempt it.
The benefits that double glazed windows have over more traditional single pane windows are vast. Their cost however can be offsetting to some homeowners. They are initially a large investment to most. They will however pay for themselves eventually and with the extra benefits it is no wonder they are gaining in popularity each year.
